Match Breakdown: Friday, Dec. 12, starting at 7:30 am EST
Niels Zonneveld (-295) v Haupai Puha (+245)
To start off the day, we look at two players who have been in this tournament before and have a good chance against each other. Zonneveld is the stronger player in this matchup as he is averaging around 93.19 for three darts, while Puha is only averaging 87.24. Puha has lost 6 straight games, which has to be a confidence attack coming into a tournament this large. A large focus of the tournament is being consistent and not letting the crowd get to you. Puha did beat Zonneveld in a tournament match back in August, but I think this will be tough for him to overcome.
If the first day taught us anything, if you lose any confidence, you will not be able to relax and hit your targets. This game makes you assess every situation in a matter of seconds.
Verdict: Niels Zonneveld to beat Haupai Puha - [3 sets to 1]
Ian White “Diamond” (-119) v Mervyn King (+110)
This match brings two veterans together who have both competed in this tournament over ten times. White has competed 13 times, and King is on time number fifteen, but this is his first time in three years. Both players are past their core of competition when you look at the extent of this tournament, but they are exciting and fun to watch. They are both coming off losing streaks, which could add some extra fuel to the fire. White is averaging 2 points better on three-darters this year compared to King and is known for better accuracy, but anything can happen on the big stage.
Verdict: Ian White “Diamond” to beat Mervyn King - [3 sets to 2]
(20) Ryan Searle “Heavy Metal” (-380) v Chris Landman “The Countryman” (+300)
This is an exciting match because Searle has been a featured player this year and is averaging 90+ in three darters within 2025. He has made it to the fourth round of this tournament before and has a consistency of success throughout other tournaments. That is not to take away from the Landman, who has a strong consistency push, and if Searle starts to miss his doubles, we could have a match, but that is a large IF by Searle.
It will be interesting to see Landman hit his doubles and force Searle to be on a higher level. If that is the case, I think we could have a competition, but at the moment, I have to lean on Searle to be dominant.
Verdict: Ryan Searle to be Chris Landman - [3 sets to 0]
(17) Rob Cross “Voltage” (-250) v Cor Dekker “The Sheriff” (+250)
When you look at the names on this card, you will automatically think that Cross has the advantage because he has a larger resume and more televised experience in all of this. I do think Dekker has a chance to prove himself in the first round. Cross can throw a three-dart average around 96, but his season has lacked that consistency.
This is Dekker's first season with a tour card and his debut at this championship, but he has defeated other pros like Chris Dobey at other main tournaments. I don’t think it will be easy, but I think the live venue changes everyone for good or bad.
Verdict: Cor Dekker to defeat Rob Cross - [3 sets to 2]
